Foundation and Skills Course

LOCATION: Ben Clark Equestrian Center16791 Davis Ave., Riverside, CA 92518

LEAD INSTRUCTOR: Jacquie Hartigan, Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Posse (Ret) and Corona Police Department Mounted Unit.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will educate the student in riding skills and maneuvers, mounted unit formations and movements, obstacles, search & rescue, legal issues, trailering, proper use of bits, and mounted patrol tactics. Additionally, the student and their mount will learn the basic skills necessary to effectively deal with various stimuli encountered during mounted patrol operations.

PREREQUISITES: (1) Member of or sponsored applicant for a Law Enforcement Mounted Unit or Posse (2) Mount must meet their Unit requirements (qualified) and be in good health (3) Rider and Mount must pass a riding proficiency test the first day of class.

CLASS SIZE: Maximum of 30 riders

REGISTRATIONS FEES:

Registration on or before 3/15/2026: $375.00

Registration after 3/16/2026: $425.00

CAMPING: For dry camping reservations, please email Administrative Assistant Tina Frey.

Your registration fee includes lunch Friday-Sunday. Stalls will be on a first come first served basis. Please contact Tina Frey at freytinawsmoa@gmail.com.

Registration will open February 9, 2026 and will be completed online at www.wsmoa.com under the Dues/Training tab. This is a non-refundable class. Fees may be transferred to another member of the same organization. Extreme hardships will be considered by a meeting of the Board of Directors. If there is a waiting list for a course roster, applicants for student/horse combinations who have previously completed that same course will be encouraged to enroll in the next appropriate course or may be moved to the waiting list. Each student MUST be a member of WSMOA.

Additionally by signing up for any WSMOA class or event, you give permission for WSMOA to use your photograph and other media such as film and videos, on WSMOA promotional material, publications and social media, for which it may be suitable.
